LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — The Blowfish blasted their first home run of the 2017 season but couldn’t notch their first win at Lexington County Baseball Stadium as they fell to Savannah Tuesday night 8-6.
Lexington County got ahead early in the ballgame as they broke the ice in the third on an RBI double from Zach Spivey (Bethune-Cookman) that brought in Randal Ortiz (Winston-Salem) to give the Fish the 1-0 lead.
Savanna tied the game in the fifth and broke ahead in the top of the sixth on a three run home run from Christian Hollie (UT-Arlington) that gave the Bananas their first lead of the night.
Lexington County stormed right back in the home half of the sixth scoring four runs, two on a two run triple from Seth Lancaster (Coastal Carolina) and then a two run blast to right field from Riley Hogan (South Carolina) that gave the Fish the 5-4 lead.
But the Blowfish couldn’t hold on again, allowing three runs in the seventh as Savannah went blow for blow with Lexington County.
The Blowfish cut the Banana lead in half in the bottom of the seventh but Savannah doubled their lead in the eighth and didn’t look back en route to a 8-6 win over the Blowfish on the road.
Savannah snapped a four game losing streak and sent the Blowfish bask into a three game skid of their own. The Bananas scored all of their runs in fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth innings storming back against Lexington County.
Wednesday night the Blowfish come back out to take on their in-state rival Florence for the fourth time in 2017. Lexington County looks for their first win over the RedWolves and their first home victory in the same night.
