LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — The Blowfish came into Wednesday night’s ballgame against Florence dropping their first six straight games at home to start 2017. Florence came in winning their first ten ballgames.
Both of those streaks were snapped Wednesday night when the Fish knocked off the Wolves 4-1 from Lexington County Baseball Stadium.
Lexington County got a running start in the first when Mickey Dugan (Gardner-Webb) smacked a solo home run over the left field wall giving the Blowfish a 1-0 lead.
Florence tied the game in the second on a fielder’s choice but struggled to muster any offense from that point on.
The Blowfish starter Ryan Stoudemire (Charleston Southern) was excellent for Lexington County on the bump, going five strong allowing just the one run while striking out nine RedWolves on the night.
Lexington County reclaimed the lead in the fifth when Riley Hogan (South Carolina) smacked an RBI single which was followed up by a run scoring on a ball put in play on the right side by Brian Moore (St. John’s River State).
The Blowfish added insurance in the sixth on a Jabari Richards (Furman) RBI single and cruised from that point on.
Florence went hitless between the third and seventh innings and could only muster four hits on the night.
Avery Greer (North Greenville) notched Lexington County’s first save of 2017 and sent the Fish fans happy with a 4-1 win over the previously undefeated Florence RedWolves.
Tomorrow night the Blowfish look for two straight as they welcome on in the Forest City Owls to Lexington County Baseball Stadium.
