Bill and Vicki Shanahan own and operate Shanahan & Company Sports Management LLC which is the parent company of the Lexington County Blowfish, member of the Coastal Plain League.
Bill began his career in baseball in 1984 and has over thirty years of professional sports ownership, management, sales and operations experience. During his career, Bill has worked with a number of Minor League Affiliates of Major League teams including the Cincinnati Reds, Seattle Mariners, New York Mets, San Diego Padres and Arizona Diamondbacks.
In the nineties, Shanahan ran the Columbia Mets/Capital City Bombers at Historic Capital City Stadium in Columbia, SC. During that time he was also an adjunct professor at the University of South Carolina teaching Sports Administration.
In 2014, Bill retired from the pro side of baseball and he and his wife,Vicki, moved back to Lexington, SC from Mobile, Alabama where after nearly 20 years – he was the President/COO overseeing four different baseball teams across the country – From Alabama to California, Ohio and South Carolina.
Bill moved back to focus on Blowfish Baseball and the building and marketing of the new Lexington County Baseball Stadium which opened in May of 2015. In its first season in Lexington County, the Blowfish averaged over 2,000 per game, made it to the CPL playoffs and were voted the 2015 Coastal Plain League Organization of the Year. The Blowfish Baseball Club is a proud member of the Coastal Plain League which has 16 summer collegiate teams in Virginian, South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia. Shanahan has been operating the Blowfish franchise since its inception in 2005 and 2017 begins its 12th season in the CPL.
Over the years, Shanahan has been the recipient of numerous awards for his innovative approach to marketing the game and continues to be very active in the community serving on a number of boards and civic organizations. In 2013, Bill was awarded “The Order of the Silver Crescent” by South Carolina Governor Niki Haley for exemplary performance, contribution and achievement within the community. It is the state’s highest award for volunteer and/or community service.
Bill and Vicki, who own Shanahan & Company Sports Management, parent company for the Blowfish, are thankful and excited to be back living in the Midlands, and celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary last August. They have have four children, and five grandchildren.
