The 2019 Lexington County Blowfish completed their season on August 3rd. Three Blowfish were selected to the Coastal Plain League All-Star Game. Now three have been named to the All-CPL First and Second Teams.
UT-Martin's Houston Wright was selected First Team All-CPL as a DH/UTL player. Wright started all 49 games for the Blowfish in 2019, tallying a .276 average. Wright led the team with eight home runs, 14 doubles, and 31 RBI. Citadel relief pitcher Will Abbott was also a First Team selection as well. Abbott was only in Lexington County for the first half of the season, but his impact while in Lexington was made more important in his absence. During the first half of the season, Abbott pitched 20 innings, striking out 33 opposing batters, and earning a 1.35 ERA as the Blowfish closer. He recorded five saves in 15 appearances, which tied him for sixth in the league for the most saves.
Clemson's Michael Green, a Coastal Plain League All-Star, was a Second Team All-CPL team selection for the 2019 season. Green was the spark plug for the Blowfish from the first time he stepped on the field at The Lex. Green led the Blowfish in batting average, totaling a .337 average for the season. He also knocked in 18 RBI, along with six home runs, three doubles and two triples. Green was also named the MVP for Lexington County in 2019.
"It's a testament to the hard work of these young men who worked hard at their game all summer long," General Manager Theo Bacot stated. "In Lexington County, we pride ourselves on hard work, and playing the game the right way. Michael, Houston, and Will are the perfect examples of the type of student-athlete we want representing Lexington County as Blowfish."
